Race / No race / Gobble anyway!

This is the first time in a few years I will not be racing on Thanksgiving.

I love a good Turkey Trot, (especially a flat, fast, race); but, my family wanted to stay home.
So today I am perfecting my 2 crust apple pie instead of my 5k.:)

I pinky-promised Google I would replace this photo with my own if the pie turned out any good!
Here's my masterpiece.
I'm very proud of my first 2-crust pie! However I will need to add more flour to the filling next time :)

There is a little part of me that would like to be burning off some extra goodies in a race, but I will satisfy myself with something else along this line over the weekend:

Maybe a few times...

Did you race a Turkey Trot?
Did you bake anything ♥ ?
I would love to read your race reports or see what you ate :).. Leave a link in my comments section so I can see how you did!

Happy Thanksgiving & God bless!

  1. I'm running my first turkey trot ever in less than two hours. And I made 2 apple pies and a chocolate pudding pie. I'll be sure to post their pictures in my race report so you can see them. ;-) Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! :)

    3. I've been double blogging everything for the past year...haven't gotten up the nerve to export the blogger blog to Wordpress. I know it's possible and I know it's probably not that difficult, but I haven't been motivated to figure it out. The domain name was like $25 for the year, I think.

    4. Good grief...25 replies, all from me. First, thank you for the encouraging comment! :) And second, your pie looks gorgeous! I do an apple pie with streusel topping just so I only have one crust to mess with. :)

    5. Ok That's not bad!? I'm just hoping to see if I can change my URL but still have the old URL automatically redirect to the new one somehow. And if it would disconnect email subscribers..

    6. And... so we can just keep the comment party train going... You EARNED that compliment!!! Nice race! -- Thanks about the pie :)

  2. Heyyyyy, sweetie! We're not Turkey Trotting, either, and it's also a first. So, I'm a terrible cook. It's so bad that when Keith's mom handed out assignments for Thanksgiving dinner, she assigned me TEA. Yes, tea. LOL. My problem is not in the mixing, it's in the baking. Either burnt or raw, I have trouble with the middle ground.

Keith and I did the big family dinner last night, and we are having a quiet day today. I'm running long with my BF, and we're going to hit up a movie, I think. Tonight I have wine (oh yeah, I can cook that, ha), a mini turkey (that his work gave him, not that I cooked), some green beans (from can), mashed potatoes (instant), sweet potatoes (who can screw that up?), and a pie that Keith's mom sent home with us last night.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Hope you pie turns out delish!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm about to go walk/run my turkey trot (playing it safe!) and then I'm thinking bourbon sweet potato pie with bruleed top. No recipe, just mind wandering...and I have a lonely sweet potato in the fridge, so should be doable.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a great day! We voted Turkey trot or Movie, and since I was the only one who voted Turkey trot, I am on my way to the movies!! Our family tradition is to cook our entire Thanksgiving day dinner the day before so that we could enjoy today even more! Hope your pies turn out great! Carri~A Running bee

  6. Happy Thanksgiving Raina! I got up at 4:15 this morning to get my 10 mile workout in, and then ran a turkey trot with my kids. My 10 year old daughter really wanted me to run with her, and she ended up running a 33 minute 5k!! It was lots of fun. We are having a family day here at home (we don't live near any family) so we are eating turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, stuffing, sweet potato soup, and lots of fun desserts. Lucky for me, Josh is an awesome cook and loves to do it, so he does a lot of it. I did the sweet potato soup and some of the desserts yesterday. :) Happy Happy Thanksgiving my friend! Enjoy your trail running this weekend. :)

  7. Happy Thanksgiving, Sweet Girl! Your pie looks super delicious - I can't bake anything so I was thankful that my relatives are much better cooks than I! :)

I did trot today as did my non-running son - fun to spend the morning with him (as it's usually my running son who does the races with me :)).

Hope you had a super day!

  9. Looks gorgeous! We don't do Thanksgiving here - though I wish we did because I love the food AND there's no presents to stress about! I LOVE apple pie - must be the Dutch in me - so sometime when we meet up you'll have to make another! And even without a race you managed to run on those gorgeous trails.. lucky you!

  11. Happy Thanksgiving! (a day late). I didn't race, just did easy run at home around my neighborhood. As for baking, no pie this year. My fiance and I decided last minute (as in wednesday night) that we weren't going to travel as planned which meant last minute running around like crazy figuring out what I was going to cook. I went from having to cook nothing to having to cook everything, which is fine- but I can't bake pie to save my life. SO our dessert was sugar free chocolate cake baked with protein powder and served with warm berries and greek yogurt. Not the same as pie, but Im sure we can hunt some down this weekend

  12. That pie looks amazing!! I didn't race but did my own 4 mile turkey trot with my favorite running buddy -- my chocolate lab, Ivy! It was a gorgeous day and the streets were filled with families out walking, riding bikes and running together. Every square inch of the parks I passed was covered with families and friends playing tag football and soccer. Upon walking back in the door, I roused the whole family (my parents included) and dragged everyone outside for a walk and some football. That was my favorite hour of the day!

  13. Your pie looks awesome! I ran a Tofurkey 5 miler on my own. It was a cold but beautiful day. I did bake some chocolate chip pumpkin bread, but that was about it for me. Hope you had a great holiday!

  15. In Italy we don't have Park Runs, Turkey Trots and other beautiful races like those.

  17. What's a turkey trot? ;-) It'd have to be on Christmas Day down here as we don't have Thanksgiving and Christmas is the one day of the year you'd have a roast turkey. Like the look of that pie -- good alternative to racing!

Do the Aussies have enough turkeys? I could send you a few.. Hope your hammy is healing up.

    2. Yes, plenty of turkeys. Cold ham is popular at Christmas too. Thanks, the hammy is on the mend but I've just come through (hopefully) a calf strain. Injuries are so annoying!
