Still Streaking and Other Updates

Just a little note to say I am thinking about updating my blog.

That's about as far as it's getting right now. Life is good. God is very good. And, I have been enjoying time with my family.

I get fantastic blog ideas once a year and post them.  But, when I am running, I will get 9,356 blog ideas and as soon as I walk in the door POOF! They evaporate.

This is not one of those 9,356 ideas, but here is an update :   I am still running.

OK here are a few more:

It would be fun to do New Year's race, but I am far far out of race shape at the moment..

Also, I am still in the "5k-a-day Streak Challenge" with 2 other ladies who are very determined to stick to it (Anytime now, you can DROP OUT!!) My current streak: 29 days (201.8 mi) 4 wk 1 d,  avg 7 mi / day
Doing a New Year's day race would mean either I take the rest day and lose the streak, or race after 30+ days without a rest day. I am slightly curious to see how  I would race without a rest day or real speed work. Not sure I am curious enough to pay a race fee, though. :)

Also...I got new shoes!
So in love with these girly- pink Brooks ghost 5's. I got used to my old shoes and forgot how much support new shoes give. I won't wait so long to replace mine next time.

special email came from a friend today as well. I will quote from it, because it absolutely
MADE MY NIGHT.

"I wanted to tell you how excited I am to train with my heart rate monitor. I have been keeping track of my easy runs and on December 6, I did an easy 5.5 miles at a 10:49 pace and my avg. HR was 145. today I did an easy 4 at a 10:05 pace and my avg. HR was 141. it's so crazy to watch the pace go down!"

Consistent effort and smart training DO pay off. All smiles for you, friend!
Can't wait to see how you race :)

Late edit: I forgot to say I WON something from Michael! (She is a generous contest hostess). A pair of touch-screen phone gloves...perfect! Now all I need is the touch-screen phone :)

Have you ever streaked? Mine is not that long, really...I just miss my rest days :) This beats my previous streak record by 2 days, but with lower average daily mileage.

Will you ring in the New Year with a race?

  1. Love hearing from you! And seeing your feet and coffee! :) Wish I could sit there and have coffee with you. I could run with you too now since you're getting out of race shape...ha! :) Never intentionally streaked when it comes to running. However, I HAVE streaked if you think of streaking in a running but non running sort of way...like the naked kind of running...like from my college dorm to the parking lot and back in the middle of the night. Just for fun. Well, I had my undies on. And possibly some socks. does that count? Love to you!

  2. Oh my gosh!! That tops it all!! I think I saw that happen from my college classroom window. LOL. Socks? No way. That cancels everything ;)

    1. Ha ha! Okay, then I'll admit that I'm pretty sure I had shoes on too. But not a whole lot else. Ha ha! :) laughing.

  5. This is the first time I've ever streaked! For the first 2.5 weeks, I thought it was WAY tougher than I'd expected it to be. And now, while I'm looking forward to January, it's kind of become my new normal. It's been interesting.

So glad I found your blog :)

    1. It does start to feel normal, doesn't it? Thanks for finding me, Bobbi! I am off to find you now :)

    1. Great colors, eh? Ha! A little streak could be fun to try. A lot of "pro" streakers count one mile, or 1k as a run.

  7. Wonderful pic. Who wouldn't love to snuggle up next to the Christmas tree with coffee and running shoes. I'm almost there I just need to add the shoes to the equation. I might skip my rest day this week to practice swimming. Does that count as streaking? ;) Instead of a New Years race how about a big drive/adventure to run with friends you've never ran with before? (hint, hint) ;) Blessings to you in the New Year!

    1. Your invitation sounds WAY better than an unprepared race. I will email you. Would love to have coffee and a run with you!! We need to make this happen!

    2. Agreed! How many hours apart do we live?

  8. I just ran 7 weeks with no day off and shouldn't have had a day off but with no husband here on Christmas day I wasn't going to leave my kids! I don't miss days off, I like to get a daily fix I guess ;)

Taper for Houston is almost upon me so I'd better find something else to do for the next couple of weeks, clean my house perhaps ;D

I can never get the cute colours for shoes, they only do they plainer ones for people with my size feet (LARGE!) Life can be cruel like that ;)

Look forward to the next post but I enjoyed this one too!

    1. You know, looking at my stats, It occurred to me that both you and Erin ran half that mileage in just one week! Insane!! Your legs must be like iron.
What size do you wear? Are you above all the ladies sizes? I order mine online, and i have pretty big feet. We will just say they give a good push-off :)

  9. Oooh! I get this with running and blog ideas!! I think while I run and process but then I lose my mojo to write it out!

Awesome on the streak!! I would have to look and see what my streak was at at one point. I don't even remember. Gosh, seems like so long ago that I even ran 3 days in a row-ha! That will all change tomorrow:)

Yay on the new shoes. I still have 3 unopened pairs of Launch's! Love the feeling of a new pair!!

Best of luck to you if you do a New Year's Race!! XO

    1. I had a funny feeling you had a few pairs of launches squirreled away! :)
What are your plans after tomorrow? Totally curious!

  10. Too funny. Last week, I almost took a picture of me drinking coffee and wearing running shoes... just like what you have posted here!

I can't decide about the New Year's race here. It's the day before my longest long run of my training cycle. Not sure if I want to wear myself out, yk? I think my oldest is going to run the 5K though, so I may just be there as a cheerleader.

    1. See! We need to live close and do that photo together!
A race is fun, but so is cheering for one. Hope you have a great New Year's Allison!!

  11. Yay!!! You got the pink Ghosts! Now we have matching shoe again. I love the pink color the best, but it is also my favorite color too. Do you want some pink shoe laces? They match the pink on the Ghosts perfectly.

Great job on the streaking. That is awesome!!!! I am thinking about maybe doing a new year's day race, but I am not sure. I ran it last year and it was so stinking cold that it wasn't fun. I think that it was a 5 mile race. I probably will just stay in bed and focus on another 5K towards the end of January.

Happy New Year sweet friend. XXX

    1. I would love some pink Laces, Tasha. :) We can really be twins now, ha!

Sleeping in doesn't sound bad either. Saw you were also signed up for some other big races this spring. Yay for racing again, my Brooks buddy!!

  12. Requesting a review of the ghost's and which shoe you would compare them to:) Thanks in advance!

I am the same with blogging ideas... especially when I am running/racing. A lot of them time I will remember what I was going to write, but then realize it was not as awe-inspiring as I remembered it being. lol

29 days, that is awesome lady!! I have never gone on a running streak... my body commands running rest days. Hope you have a happy New Years. xx

Rest days definitely help you improve..looking forward to taking one very soon! Happy New Year to you too :)

  13. Only a few more days, keep going!! I'm so mad my streak ended :( There's always next year right?

I absolutely love that picture. Doesn't get much more perfect than that...except for maybe a nap. That's where I'm off to now!

    2. Nice run streak Raina! I think you should race on no rest but just cruise instead of racing it. I think you'll be happy with how well you do just having fun. Happy New Year to you and your family!

  14. Yay for new shoes and yay for a streak!!! I guess I streak (in the boring, clothed, running way) all the time as I rarely take a day off. I just took off my first day in months because of an evil stomach virus. My body just feels better when I run daily, but I do mix it up with shorter, easier runs, recovery pace runs, hard runs, long runs, etc. Cute cute pic! Happy new Year my friend. Can't wait to see what 2013 bring for you and those fast feet. :)

  15. I'm a dedicated non-streaker, though I think doing one for fun sometime like you're doing would be a nice change-up. I always take Sundays off--works for my routine and my body!

I wanted to do a New Year's 5K, but this cold/flu/whatever it is so far isn't loosening its grip on me. So the jury's still out.....It would be a great way to ring in the year, though--I might do it anyway and just not worry about my time.

Happy New Year! Looking forward to April in Eugene!

  16. I love your streak! I've been tossing around ideas for some sort of 2013 streak, myself. And I say RACE! You'll probably do wonderfully and in the off chance that you don't, you'll probably have fun anyway.

  17. Pink Ghosts? Be still my heart!! :) I just got some new pink Pure Flows, they have some new funky tongue but otherwise the same shoe (I think). Extra cushy stuff is the best though!

Never done a streak here, and now I'm too old. If I ran every single day, I'd be injured. I do pretty much exercise every day though....but a day or two is usually swimming with a day of riding my bike. I admire you guys who can run everyday and I hope you continue to have a blast doing it!!

No resolution races for me, I'm tapped out at 25 races this year. It's also pretty chilly here and I don't like racing in the snow much. I do plan to do a long, snowy run tomorrow though....so I'd better get to bed.

Happy for you that life is going good! :)

  18. I know! I have so many blog posts in my head too...just can't find them when I need to type them up, ha!
Awesome job on the streak. I read on competitor that running at least 30 min a day for 30 days does wonders for a person's fitness. Your training is going super. You've had some awesome runs lately. Still thinking of that ultra?

Have a super 2013 Raina, with everything you want and deserve! Love you, AM

  19. I have never done a running streak - I don't think I could do 29 days! Good for you. Good luck at your race!
I don't have any resolutions yet, but I do have to make some goals and get on planning some races for 2013.
    Happy New Year to you:)

  20. I tried streaking this summer and my body was not so happy with it. I'm impressed you're still going at 29 days!
    Happy new year, Raina!

  21. So did you do a Jan 1 race or run or take the day off??

You also won the final week 4 prize - it's already on the way. Congrats. Thanks again for participating. It was alot of fun.

  22. lol, my blog ideas are the same way! except i haven't been running much for them to "come to me". congrats on streaking!

  23. pink ghost 5 are coming my way! I am still in the 4s and I found a couple pairs really cheap but I won a giveaway for a pair of shoes and those pink ones are IT!!!

    happy healthy new year!

  25. Love the pic... Christmas tree, running shoes and coffee (that is pure BLISS!)

I've never streaked and think I am years away from building up to that. My body needs the rest days... or at least I think it does. Will try one day. But great work with your streak!!!!! :=) HNY!
