Bullet style vent post

I'm just going to let er rip tonight and delete this puppy later, maybe.

  • Took a week off from running after my last race....the day I am scheduled to come back: Boom! Sick with a cold. Gotta love irony. God has a sense of humor. Reminds me of this blogger's comment a couple of posts back.
  • I mostly just biked during my "week off", and rode 3 days for a total of 42 miles.
  • A new toy came VIA FedEX for me to review yesterday! I am kind of excited to test it out more. Don't hold your breath for that post, though. It might take me a year to figure out all the functions.

  • My Christmas cards still are not done yet.... I don't even have the family picture for them.  I might just draw one with stick figures- easier than getting us all together at once and smiling without blowing our noses.
  • Some personal issues came to a head this week. I had a little crisis (or two), and fell completely broken before the Lord. I am praying for some big-time changes to take place. They need to. As much as I hate a huge sob fest, I am glad that it happened. It is in these times that I feel Him drawing me back to him.( I need a short leash. A very short leash.) In this time I found some short videos,..and watched this one in particular, which was just what I needed to see.
  • Tonight I finished reading the last chapter of The Last Battle, by CS Lewis, to my boys as their bedtime story.  From time to time, I stop and ask them questions to check their understanding. It's been a most excellent read.
  • I will be hosting a running gear giveaway later this week. Please stop by and check it out. :)
  • If you are racing Sunday, best wishes to you and may the wind be at your back!

  1. Sorry you've had a tough time this week. I wonder if we could somehow work out a way to blame it ALL on NOT running for a week?! ;) I love story time with my kids at bedtime, in part because I've made it through another day with my merry band of terrorists but also because we get to disappear into another world for a little while. My kids get very excited about new library books (I single handily keep our library open through our late fees :s) and I can't wait until they are old enough for chapter books. My eldest is learning to read (and doing VERY well :)) and has started reading to the baby, which I love.
Chin up and good for ranting and not deleting, maybe you just need to hear some kind words. I don't t share the faith you have (honestly it's been a HUGE culture shock moving to Texas for me!) but I do feel a strong connection to you, probably because we're both so funny and such awesome runners ;D (nothing like giving yourself a pat on the back :D). Here's to this week being a better one :)

    1. A merry band of terrorists, indeed! :)I can relate. Story time is a sweet thing. My boys really look forward to it. How wonderful when they can also read to themselves and others. Congrats on your reader!
Sorry about the shock Texas must be! The nice thing is that we don't have to share the same beliefs to love one another.

  2. Girl, that's not much of a vent. At least call some people stupid or something. Haha! I'm sorry you've had a stressful week, and I will be praying for whatever it is that is causing you distress.

Very cool about the new watch. You'll have to do a little product review on it after you figure it out. I haven't seen that kind before. I hope you get to feeling better this week and are able to head back out running. :)

    1. Heh...yeah, I think I got most of it out already--several times this week, and some of them shouting obscenities at the top of my lungs while riding a bike in the rain. But also on my knees, and now in writing.
I will do a review once I figure it out! First thing I had to do was switch it from Ks to Miles, and from Celsius to Fahrenheit. I am not en expert with tech stuff, so if I can figure it out- so can any monkey!

  3. Hope you are feeling better soon. I don't know how many times I've gotten sick at the worst possible time. I also hope whatever you've been dealing with get worked out, glad you were able to find some comfort.

We don't have our Christmas pictures yets either...we need to get on that soon!

  4. If newborn kittens had the ability to vent, I imagine this is what it would look like. :)

Seriously, though, it sounds like you struggled through a messy week but came out pretty much intact. I admire your strength and the way you put your thoughts into words, very much.

RE: the Christmas cards? Stick figures would be THE talked-about mail of the season. Just sayin'...

    1. Thank you, jayloh. Maybe I can get the kids to draw a family portrait to mail out :)

  5. I call this a very classy vent:)
I am a true believer in crying. It always makes me feel better.
Impressed that you are sending Christmas cards. I always plan to do it but I never end up doing it.
Here is for a fresh start this week: healthy strong runs, problems resolved, peace and tranquility all around. Love you Raina!

  7. I got sick this weekend too. Injured, sick, maybe I'm getting it out of the way before a strong Boston training cycle. At least that's what I'm hoping! :) I watched the video. It's really beautiful. I hope you're feeling better soon and that you get your family picture or stick figures drawn soon. I know how tough it is to get a family shot of three boys! :)

    1. That's a very good perspective, Carissa. Timing is everything. Hope you are 100% healthy soon, friend. Still lots of time before Boston :)

  8. Love to you from P-town Raina! Your vent is definitely short and classy. I was expecting some real dirt...ha ha. But, in all seriousness, I hope you are getting some good clarity now...I can relate to problems coming to a head and life just feeling broken. It does pull us back and give us a new perspective/outlook to carry forward once things simmer. We always grow from the rough patches.

Cool that have a new toy to review.

HOnestly, this might be the first year in a long time that I might just choose not to do Christmas cards. I just feel like cutting some things and going easier on myself this year. We will see. :)

Okay, more later...sorry for such a poor comment...commenting on the fly here. Will probably come back and add or e-mail after my long run.

    1. Happy to hear from you and P-town! Yes- clarity and patience and will power- those are all handy.

I can't blame you about the cards. I haven't done them for 2010-2011 and need to make contact. Maybe a postcard...

  9. I always feel better after a sob fest. They are so necessary some times! We started doing a Cmas newsletter rather than cards, which still takes a little work, but it's fun to put together. We're having a friend get some photos of our family this afternoon!

    1. That's what we did last time. I like writing it, too. I will need to decide what to do quickly, but i might do a postcard to save on the mailing cost.
Maybe I will set up a temporary blog, write a letter and put a link on the postcard :)

  10. Your vent/rant post was much nicer than some of mine. Sorry that you got a nasty cold. I got one when I was in Oregon over Thanksgiving and fought it all week. I think that I finally won the battle. At least you got a fun new toy to play with. I never get anything fun so you are steps ahead of me my friend. You still have plenty of time to get your Christmas cards done, it is only 12/2. :-)
I hope that your personal issues get resolved too. Never fun to deal with something that isn't pleasant.

  11. Prayers and positive thoughts for whatever it is you're going through. That and may it take you 6 mos instead of 12 to figure out the new toy!

    1. Thank you, Adrienne! I am starting to get it figured out...need to email the High Gear tech team for some software questions. It's a fun puzzle to work at.

  12. Thanks for joining the challenge. I'll get you added to the list....as far as how you do the 3.1 miles, well, my tracking spreadsheet only allows you to enter your total miles for the day, so I guess, I wouldn't be able to tell whether you did it as a single run or multiple, so I guess yes, as long as you get 3.1 in during the day you are ok. Up to you.

  14. Hey there! I'm behind but I'm glad you didn't delete so I could still get over here!

OK-I had to laugh at Jayloh's comment. Yes, this is a tame vent:) You should here my real vents. I don't often type them out but I have a sister or 2 that hears quite a nice rant every now and again!

I'm not done our card either. I still need to get a picture of the kids on them. Joe and I got our pictures taken but the kids aren't done yet. Last year was the first time in 14 years that I hadn't gotten a Christmas card out and this year is not looking that promising so I better get my butt in gear!!

I'm not sure what your personal issues are but my heart goes out to you right now. I can relate completely to the broken feeling... I've actually been thinking about this/you a lot since I read this the other day...I love you and I hope things are going better now.

OK-need to head out to work but I hope you kick that cold and you enjoy being back out there running!!

  15. Seems like when it rains it pours, huh? I guess you get it all of the bad out of the way at once though.

Hope this week starts a fresh new happy week!
