Looking forward to a few things:

Some new shoes!!!

I LOVE my Brooks PureConnects, but can hardly wait to see how the PureConnect2  (And the other Pure shoes) will feel (available December 1st) !

The PureDrift, available January first,  promises to be fun and freeing-- I will keep the sock liner in, but without it the shoe will be zero-drop.

And...also looking forward to some of this:

A little bit of easy trail running at one of my newest favorite spots: Dorris Ranch

There IS a trail once you get through the filbert orchards. I like the soft ground under the trees, which is less traveled (and not as muddy yet).

Ah...
Just me and the squirrels.

I am REALLY going to enjoy volunteering at this RACE on Sunday!

Usually I race it, but I know it will be a blast to help out (with a friend!!) instead this year. :) I am coming fully caffeinated and will be ready when the all the crazies rush my table to register day of race.

And...who ISN'T looking forward to this?

(But not until after a 3.11 mile run, maybe???) .

I am so blessed to have my health and my family to spend Thanksgiving with. God has been very good to me this year (always!!), and I am thankful.
 How about you?

What are you looking forward to?

Do you have any special plans for Thanksgiving Day?

  1. I would love to see you while you are up here, if it is a possibility!! Do they still need volunteers for the EWEB run? Also, where does one get a "Run, Raina, Run! shirt? Those are rad!

  2. Good luck working race day registration. I bet that does get crazy! We are traveling to Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving and I am hoping to jump into a Turkey Trot the morning of to burn off some of the bazillion anticipated calories I will be eating. Have a great week!

  4. That trail looks fantastic! Thanksgiving and family is always good, and I'm looking forward to having those (much-needed!) days off. I'm really excited for a couple of upcoming races in the next two months, both on trails and with the possibility of snow, one at night. Plus I'm hopefully volunteering at an adventure race, so I'll get to visit with lots of cool people. :)

    1. Family and days off are both nice to have. Your race plans sound fun AND potentially scary to me. Hope you have a great time volunteering, Kate!!

  5. I don't have to get caught up in the Thanksgiving thing being a Scot, for which I am truly grateful - such HUGE holiday only 4 weeks before Christmas WHAT?!?!?! ;)
I do have a killer track session to get done before we head over to my mums to eat......steak pie! We refuse to do Turkey, that's for Christmas and have it twice a year, well that would be crazy ;D Hubbie will still be offshore too so we'll have our own celebration when he gets home.
    Have a good one!

    1. I guess we like to cluster our joyful craziness here. :)
Steak pie sounds yummy...with potatoes in it? Is this like a chicken pot pie? Perfect for a cold weather workout.
Your hubby will be happy to get back to you. Have a great holiday!

  6. I am looking forward to my two day work week next week. I get to go to Oregon to my parent's house for Thanksgiving. I am so excited to spend some time at the coast and just relax for once. :-)

  7. I love that you are volunteering at EWEB this year. I have such fond memories of meeting you there a few years ago!

We're running our local Give N Gobble turkey trot Thanksgiving morning. No medals, no other bling. All of the proceeds go to the local food bank. I'm kind of digging the lack of bling. Seems appropriate for Thanksgiving.

  8. Exciting!!!! I did not know that a *new* version of the Flows will be out soon. I plan on buying a new pair for my January marathon.

We're going to San Diego and celebrating Thanksgiving with friends. I am VERY thankful for that! Good food and some good shopping!

      Enjoy the trip to SD!!

  9. I heard about the new lines a few weeks ago and I can't wait to try them out, seems like they fixed the tongue sliding issue! I need to put in some more miles before it's time to buy some new ones though.

    1. It will be interesting to see what asymmetrical lacing feels like! I haven't had tongue sliding problems, and am resistant to change...but am rarely disappointed by Brooks shoes.
      Have a great T day!

  10. A Brooks rep came to our local running store and showed off the new line. I was SO excited to see that they'd changed the few (minor) complaints I had about my Flows. I wanted to talk shop (I'm sure the reps LOVE that) with the Brooks people at the Niagara Falls Marathon. None of them had any clue what I was talking about. They were completely unaware of any recent changes to the line. I simultaneously panicked and felt like a big dork.
So happy to hear I'm not losing my mind, after all...
Have fun volunteering! It really is the next best thing to actually racing. Fun to be part of the excitement with zero stress. :)

  11. Those Drifts look so cool!

Looks like Thanksgiving will be filled with friends, famliy, coaching at the local 5k, and running! Oh yeah, I guess I gotta eat sometime in there:)

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  12. I tried on the Drifts - very, very light, and come in some pretty cool colors (which is so important :)).

Yummy - turkey!! Can't wait. I bet it will be a very fun day at your house :).

  14. I need to give the Brooks Pure Flows another chance... I tried them last winter and had some Achilles pain, but I probably need to ease in more carefully.
Yes, so many fun things going on this time of year! We're heading back to PA for Thanksgiving and will also be celebrating my brother's wedding!

    1. I would suggest one workout in 6 or 7 be in the lower shoes, as an adjustment- then maybe add another day after a few weeks/month. I had the same issues at first.

Have a great trip to PA and enjoy the wedding!

  15. I love my Pure Flows--maybe I can pick up a clearance pair of the old ones and have them ready for race day in two weeks! Then I can get some of the new ones for Christmas.....I just read that again and it sounds way too decadent.

You really do have the most beautiful trails!

    1. Terzah- you and I think alike.
Another pair of shoes is not too decadent (if you put the miles on them)! It's not like they won't get worn :) . It's nice not to get into emergency mode for running shoes.

  16. Homemade bread at the post-race party - my kind of race! I'll take some of those purple shoes, please!

  17. This is the 3rd time I am trying to comment here! Dang!
Love the connects, love them. Perfect shoe for me too. Love the arch support. Excited about the drifts, a little worried that the connect 2s might not be as perfect as the connects 1...I can't imagine them being better since they are perfect for me right now.
Lots to look forward for you right now!

    1. I am absolutely in the same thought pool as you on the PureConnect. Gladly they are not supposed to change much. Here's a video

The midsole and outsole are supposed to remain the same :) Hope that means the arch is the same.

  19. Great to meet you this weekend! Thanks a lot for letting me know about the race, it was a ton of fun. Eugene has some amazing trails, and people in Eugene are so fast. Every race in Eugene seems like it would be awesome. Just so many talented runners there. You'll see a post about it soon, but I'd say Eugene was one of my favorite weekends ever - with the game and then the race!

    1. It was great to meet you in person!

The game was tough- I am happy for you that you got to experience it as a Stanford fan, though I would have liked Oregon to win.

Glad you had a fun race & did great without the GPS- And super happy you liked Eugene.
