Strange Things are A-flit in Hicktown.

Well, I have a knack for stirring up trouble, biting off too much to chew, and encouraging others to do the same. Some things don't change.
Seems a few of the high school kiddos decided to be runners recently. (Glad the bus driver is drinking his coffee, so I don't get hit when they pass me!). They decided to make their own XC team.
What?! Isn't volleyball enough? And football? How about track (without a track to practice on) in the spring?

So four people make a squad. They find a coach. The coach is NOT me.
They must know I am busy and have 3 little kids that run faster than I do. They didn't bother asking. And...(I am OK with that :) ) they had another gal that wanted to do the job, and her kids are the right age to be on the team. Whew. Saved! They might have known that they would be running twice as many miles by now too. ;)
I think about this new team when I run, and how great that a 100 person high school can have more than one sport in a season for the kids. Then I start thinking about fundraising for the team, and half marathons and WHAT!? I bounced the idea off the coach (who is in her second year coaching anything) and she didn't bat an eyelash. Uh-oh. Shoulda though a bit longer about this one.
Out of nowhere, a man I know says,  "I hear you are going to have a half marathon!"
Me: "Um. Maybe. We'll see. I don't know yet. possibly"
Him: "I think it's great! Wife and I will help, and I really need a reason to start running again."
Me : "OK. Cool. I'll let you know what happens with it."     Am I a kill-joy? a deflator? Maybe a little tentative about this whole plan that hasn't been planned at all yet? YES.
I am now organizing a half marathon race as a fundraiser with head coach, Pam (a.k.a. The Fireball/Mighty Mouse).
Stay tuned. Strange things are a-flit in hicktown.
We're sorry. We were unable to delete the blog post at this time.
